Paris. Ceiling of (stuffed) owls.
I am forever grateful to map-tastic studio pals Herb Lester for introducing me to Peter Kneebone, whose books I am now completely obsessed with.
I have just received one of Mr Kneebone’s gems, called Sexes and Sevens. Published in 1953, this book traces the progress from single life to married life. His portraits of the typical bachelors are poignant and hilarious in equal terms.
I love everything about it: its tone, the fact that, almost 60 years later, the stereotypes are the same (reassuringly or not!) and of course what I love most is Mr Kneebone’s exquisite illustration style. Gems, I tell thee.
